Traffic on Saturday?

One of the benefits of my job is that for the most part I can plan sessions with clients in such a way that I can miss rush hour traffic. It's not your typical 9-5 job. I would probably be a very ill tempered person if I had to deal with major traffic every day. Driving through traffic in Nashville is no the worst but it has it's bad days.

Unfortunately today, a Saturday, I was not so lucky. Come on it's Saturday! What would have normally been a two minute strip of road took me 20 minutes. Luckily I had my handy little notebook near by so I could jot down some ideas for blog posts. Yay, blogging saves the day! What would have even been better is if I had a Blackberry and I could have posted it right then and there. Anyways, I digress...

So, traffic is moving so slowly that I can actually write all of this almost legibly. (I'm having a hard time on some of the words) The rest of this is written as it was in my notebook...

I just passed by a guy that was totally rockin' out in his car. Flailing his arms and everything. Good for him! If I pass him again maybe I can get a picture. I wonder what he is listening to.

The guy in front of me is using his water bottle as a spittoon how disgusting. I can't watch this for the next 30 minutes, time to move.

Ah, better now I am behind a happy motorcyclist swerving his bike from side to side probably singing a little ditty in his head.

Born To Be Wild just came on the radio, perfect. Get your motor running, head out on the highway! Ughhh I better not start singing, you don't want to hear that.
So, that was it and here is a picture of what all the traffic ruckus was all about. CONSTRUCTION! They condensed 4 lanes to 1.

Happy commuting everyone, I don't envy you. But remember turn the radio up and throw those arms around, don't mind the silly woman next to you in traffic writing and laughing hysterically. (she's crazy!)

"My Stuff" Bucket

I know the suspense is just killing you all, you are wondering what came in the package right? Well remember my call out to all of you crafty people out there asking if anyone would take my left over jean scraps and turn them into something useful? Well here it is...

Kristin over at Grace Violet took the challenge on and the results were so much better than I ever imagined! I sent her my son's leg pieces and this is what was waiting for me in the mail when I got home from our trip...

I cannot get over how cute this turned out! This is the perfect size for my daughter and she will love carrying around all of her girly stuff in it. Actually she will probably carry around her brother's army men, but I like to tell myself she will be into girly stuff one day.

Isn't it adorable? I just can't stop looking at it. Thanks so much Kristin!

If you want to make one of these beautiful buckets for yourself, you can find the complete tutorial here. I love Krisitn's idea of filling one with nursery needs for a baby shower.

New Life For Old Jeans + Challenge

School is officially out for summer! My son's last day of first grade was on Thursday. It seems like he just started Kindergarten yesterday. I am so enjoying these early years with my children!

My son has a "dress code" at school which basically consists of plain jeans/slacks or shorts and polos or collared shirts for the boys.

He was pretty rough on his jeans this year, which is typical for the average 7 year old. But, why only the right knee? Maybe he really leans on one knee and walks like that all day, it wouldn't surprise me. Once his jeans get a whole they are downgraded to play pants. He comes home and changes into these before he goes outside. So, here I am with 3 pairs of wholly jeans.

To kick off the summer I decided to cut off the jeans at the knees and turn them into play shorts. We bought him new shorts for school this year so I hope that he will still be able to wear them at the beginning of the next school year. I told him his play pants are for outside and if we go out in public he can wear his nice shorts. :) That sounds like we're a couple of country bumpkins doesn't it?

Here is my dilemma, I am left with 6 pant legs. Previously I would have thrown these out without a second glance. Now, I am trying to become a little more conscious of things I contribute to the landfill. It is useful, sturdy fabric but what do you make with them? I am not crafty like some of my bloggy friends out there.

I found this organizer as an option which would be a great idea for kids or craft supplies. Or maybe some little bags to organize the contents of your purse?

So what do you think? What would you use this fabric for?

It might take me a while to find time to tackle this project on my own so let's have some fun with this. If there is anyone up for the challenge I would be willing to send my "legs" to you so you can work your magic. You can use your crafty skills to make something USEFUL with them and send it back to me. I will pay for shipping and any materials you use to complete the project. (within reason). If you are up for the challenge, leave a comment and if more than one person signs up I will pick one at random. The completed project and all the details will be featured here when completed.

Do You Fight With The Aluminum Foil?

I know I am not the only one, my aunt received this email and sent it to my grandmother who of course passed it on to me. None of us knew. So I am wondering if you knew....

Here is the email.

I’ve been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to remember. Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain. You know, like when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time.

Well, I would like to share this with you. Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box. And written on the end it said, “Press here to lock end”. Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can’t count the number of times the Saran wrap roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover something up.
I checked my boxes and the aluminum foil and the saran wrap had the tabs. The wax and parchment papers did not. So, let me hear it, did you know about these great little locking tabs?

Post It Notes

Can you imagine leaving work and finding your car looking like this.

There is a contest going on over at 3M, the makers of the Post-It note. They want to see how you put your Post-It notes to use. To enter all you have to do is upload a short video to YouTube and submit it to the contest page. They are looking for new and creative uses for different types of Post-Its. The winner gets $10,000 and all 10 finalists win a new laptop.

I know there are some very creative bloggers out there. I would love to see what you all can come up with. The contest ends August 18th. How do you use your Post-Its?
