Domino Delight

February's issue of Domino brightened up my mailbox this week with one of my favorite topics on the front cover... the Organized home! This is one of those times when I just love getting mail.

Right on the inside cover is the perfect ad from Citi card. I couldn't help but laugh. It would be so fun to organize a space like this. I say forget cooking. The ad says:

"I don't cook. So I made my eat-in kitchen a fabulous walk-in
closet. My name is Grace and I live in a small apartment in a big city. And
since I enjoy shopping far more than, say, cooking, I decided to do a bit of
home remodeling. So with my Citi card in hand, I set out to get some closet
organizers. I bought a shoe rack for the oven, sweater boxes for the lower
cupboards and some 12-inch baskets for handbags up above. I saved room for
plates, glasses and silverware. And one large drawer stuffed with take-out
menus."

In this issue of Domino you can read about 3 steps to an organized home, and you can enter to win a FREE closet makeover from the Container Store. As always Domino features beautiful streamlined spaces.

You can also go online and view their Get Organized resources which includes an organizing inspiration slideshow, clutter conquering tips from readers and a few DIY projects. How fun!

There is even a short video about the experience of the contributing editor working with a Professional Organizer in his own home.

Happy Organizing!

Magazines Piled High

I must admit, magazines are a weak spot for me. I love the fresh ideas and new content delivered to my mailbox each month. However, with my new fascination in blogging I have noticed I can find much more information and ideas than any one magazine could ever carry.

My sons school did a magazine sale fundraiser last December so I told my mother in lieu of a Christmas gift she could get me my favorite mags. I must say I have had a bit of overload this year. Here are a few tips to deal with magazine overload:
  • If magazines are piling up take stock and see which ones you are losing interest in and cancel your subscription instead of renewing.

  • Keep a magazine handy for reading material when you know you will have to wait somewhere. (ex. doctor's office, or pick up line at child's school)

  • Skim magazines as soon as they come in and tear out any interesting articles for reading when you have time. File them in a "To Read" folder.

  • If you want to keep articles for future reference, create a three-ring binder with page protectors you can label by category.

Don't forget to recycle those magazines when you are done. You can also donate appropriate magazines to waiting rooms or schools.

As for me personally, I have been storing my articles in a binder. The binder was full so I went through it the last couple of days and tossed the articles that were no longer relevant. Most of the articles I keep include images of organized rooms, great organizing tips and interesting storage ideas. Instead of keeping the articles all to myself I decided it would be a great idea to scan them and share them with you all. Over the next couple of weeks you can look forward to some real treats.

Remember to keep those magazine subscriptions under control!
